Sixth Sense Software Tips & Tricks

Advanced Techniques for Seasoned Users

There are a few things you might want to do once you have become familiar with the software.

Tip 1: Choosing to use a different datafile
At some point you may want to change the datafile that you use every day; perhaps you repaired a datafile, edited one at home, or want to use a backup datafile. To select a different datafile:
Single User: Start the program. At the password window, highlight you name and type your password, but don't hit "OK". Hold the "option" (Macintosh) or "alt" (Windows) keyboard key down, and with your mouse click on the "OK" button. You will be prompted to choose a datafile.
Multi User: On the server computer, double click 4D server, choose "Compiled Database', and highlight the Sixth Sense application. Hold the "option" (Macintosh) or "alt" (Windows) keyboard key down, and with your mouse click on the "OK" button. You will be prompted to choose a datafile.

Tip 2: Skipping startup functions for quicker startup times
When the software starts it resets inventory and looks for sales records. This needs to be done at the start of every day, however, if you are starting the program for a second or third time, say after a system crash, then you can skip this. When you are at the software splash screen (see image to the right) hit:
'z': if you hit z, the program will not look for sales records or reset inventory
'x': if you hit x, the program will not look for sales records
After you have hit either 'z' or 'x' click on "OK" or hit enter on the keyboard. You will be pleased to be prompted with the main menu immediately. However, you must remember to not do this the first time you start the program in a day.
